Our typical open studio hours are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 10am-5pm. [You may request additional time from 5pm-8pm by calling or emailing to reserve peak hours for $12 per hour]. Saturdays and Sundays are dependent on private events and birthday parties. Please check the online calendar or call for the weekend’s open studio hours.
Art ala Carte PDX is an open studio for art and creation for the whole family. We turned restaurant salad bars into art bars filled with seemingly endless supplies for your childs masterpiece. Drop in between 10am-5pm Wednesdays-Fridays NO RESERVATION REQUIRED. Check our events calendar for Saturday/Sunday open studio times, as we are some times closed for birthday parties and other private events. We charge per day instead of per hour so that your child is not rushed through their project. For only $9 they are welcome to create as many masterpieces as they would like, with NO parent clean up required.
This studio is set up for ALL ages. Anywhere from 1 year olds to teenagers and adults enjoy the space. There is something for all levels. Painting, collage making, jewelry and beading, water color, 3D art, recycled art, abstract art, mosaics. Anything they can imagine.
We encourage parents to create with their children, but do not allow parental direction. Your children will learn more from the process than the product. We have very little rules here and like children to be allowed to use anything they want, however they want it. Telling your child where to place things, correcting their ideas or giving them step by step instructions for their project does very little for their development. The confidence they build from being allowed to load up the trays themselves, make their own decisions and learn thru experience will get them very far.
With community support we hope to accomplish a few missions:
1) Promote the importance of art freedom By providing space where children feel safe and comfortable letting their imaginations run wild.
2) Make art accessible to all families. By providing discounted rates and gifted memberships to families on public assistance.
3) Partner with local businesses to sponsor schools to provide free field trips to classrooms who have cut their art programs.
Art ala Carte is a FREEDOM BASED OPEN ART STUDIO! The Art Bars are self service for the children. They are encouraged to take their own supplies with out direction from grown ups. This builds confidence, stretches their imagination and promotes creativity. Please let your child be in charge.
